It is another beautiful, warm spring morning in the Bluegrass and I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful for the happy sounds of birds going about their morning routines, jumping from ground to branch to branch to ground again and repeat all while singing their delightful and uplifting morning songs, for long, crisp shadows, prisms in the window sending colorful beams of refracted light all about the eastern-facing side of the house, two cups of hot coffee and each as good as the other, the opportunity to sit with both sadness and gladness and getting to a place where I know each is a blessing. I’m grateful for my beloved wife and her good work, for spending time with her and her coworkers and feeling blessed that they do what they do with such heart and compassion, for overdue reunions finally happening and catching up on the details of life. I’m grateful for every opportunity I have to feel love and warmth and affection for another being and for every time that energy has been directed at me. I’m grateful that new “nows” keep coming and that each one builds on the one before it to make my life rich and full. I am blessed and I am grateful. What are you grateful for today?
